How to Do a Free ASO Audit Without Signing Up (2026 Guide)

Step-by-step guide to auditing any App Store or Google Play listing for free in under 60 seconds — no subscription, no credit card, no account required.

You want to know what's wrong with your app listing. You don't want to create yet another account, start a 7-day trial, and get chased by a sales email when it expires.

Good news: you don't have to. Here's how to run a complete ASO audit in under 60 seconds — for free, without giving anyone your email address.

The 60-second method

  1. Open ASOhack in a new tab.
  2. Copy your App Store URL (e.g. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/your-app/id123456789) or your Google Play URL (e.g. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.yourapp).
  3. Paste it into the audit field on the homepage.
  4. Hit Analyze. Wait 15 seconds.

You'll get a scored breakdown across six categories:

  • ASO Metadata — title, subtitle, keyword field coverage and density
  • Reviews & Ratings — rating score, review volume, recency, sentiment
  • Ads & Paid Acquisition — Apple Search Ads readiness, creatives, campaign structure signals
  • Conversion Efficiency — icon, screenshots, preview video, description structure
  • Competitive Position — how your listing stacks up against the top-ranked apps in your category
  • Technical Health — app size, update frequency, localization coverage

Each category gets a 0-100 score with ranked, specific recommendations. The audit also runs AI vision analysis on your icon and first three screenshots — it flags readability problems, missing value propositions, and creative issues that keyword tools can't detect.

No account required for the first 5 audits of the day.

What a no-signup audit can and cannot tell you

A single-point audit without continuous tracking has real limits. Be clear about what you're getting:

It tells you:

  • What is objectively wrong with your current listing (missing keywords in subtitle, description below recommended length, screenshot order suboptimal)
  • How your metadata compares to top-ranked competitors in your category
  • Whether your icon and screenshots communicate value clearly at App Store preview sizes
  • Your rating trajectory and whether review recency is hurting your ranking signals
  • Which Apple Search Ads fields are populated vs empty

It does not tell you:

  • How your keyword rankings change day to day (you need a tracker like ASOdesk or App Radar for that)
  • Historical ranking trends over weeks or months
  • Market-wide download or revenue estimates for competitors (that requires enterprise data from Sensor Tower or data.ai)
  • The exact search volume behind a specific keyword in your country and category

For most indie developers doing a listing refresh, the single-point audit covers 80% of what you need.

What to do with your audit results

The audit returns a prioritized list of fixes. A typical output looks like this:

  • HIGH PRIORITY — Subtitle is missing your 3 highest-traffic keyword targets. Your subtitle uses 18/30 characters. Add "[keyword 1]" and "[keyword 2]" to fill the remaining space with indexable terms.
  • MEDIUM — Screenshots 2 and 3 repeat the same value proposition. Screenshots should each answer a different user question. Swap screenshot 3 for a social proof screen or a feature differentiator.
  • LOW — App size (287 MB) is above the 200 MB threshold for over-the-air downloads. Consider reducing asset bundles before the next major release.

Work through HIGH priority items first. For most apps, fixing subtitle keyword gaps and reordering screenshots produces a measurable ranking lift within 2-4 weeks of Apple or Google re-indexing the updated listing.

Free ASO tools for the steps this audit doesn't cover

If the audit surfaces a gap that needs more investigation, here are the best free-tier tools for each area — none require a credit card:

Keyword research and rank tracking

ASOdesk — free tier includes keyword research and basic rank tracking for one app. Requires signup. Good for: finding keyword variations you haven't tried yet.

AppFigures — free plan tracks your own app's keyword rankings and review counts. Requires signup. Good for: daily rank monitoring without paying $49+/month.

App Radar — free plan covers one app with limited keywords. Good for: tracking rank for your 10-15 core keywords.

Competitor research

ASOhack Compare — paste two app URLs, get side-by-side audit scores and metadata comparison. Free with a signed-in account (counts as 2 audits on free tier; unlimited on Pro).

AppFollow — limited free tier for review monitoring and basic competitor tracking. Requires signup.

Screenshot and creative testing

StoreMaven — paid, but has published benchmarks by category that are publicly available. Useful for knowing what conversion rate to aim for before running an Apple CPP test.

Apple Product Page Optimization — built directly into App Store Connect. Free for any developer account. Lets you A/B test up to 3 screenshot variants. No tool required — just enable it in App Store Connect under the "Product Page Optimization" tab.

When to pay for a full ASO platform

A free audit is the right starting point, but it's not the right ending point if you're actively growing. Here's the honest threshold:

Stick with free tools if:

  • You have one app and you're optimizing its listing once a quarter
  • You're pre-launch or in early growth (under 10k downloads/month)
  • Your keyword set is small (under 30 keywords to track)
  • You're a solo dev with a $0 marketing budget

Consider a paid platform if:

  • You have 2+ apps and you need consolidated keyword tracking
  • You're running Apple Search Ads and want keyword bid recommendations based on organic rank data
  • You're managing a client portfolio (agency workflow)
  • You need reply management for hundreds of reviews per week

The cheapest paid platforms with meaningful features: AppTweak (~$99/month), ASOdesk ($29/month), App Radar ($29/month). None of them offer the AI vision analysis on screenshots that ASOhack includes by default, but they offer continuous tracking that a one-off audit tool doesn't.

The honest 5-minute workflow

If you want to go from "I don't know what's wrong" to "I have a prioritized fix list" in under 5 minutes:

  1. Run the free audit at asohack.com — no signup, 15 seconds.
  2. Open your App Store Connect or Google Play Console in another tab.
  3. Compare your current subtitle and keywords against the audit's top recommendations.
  4. Make the HIGH priority metadata changes directly in the console.
  5. Submit for review. iOS metadata updates usually propagate within 24-48 hours; Play Store within a few hours.

Start with the subtitle. It's the highest-density keyword field Apple gives you, and it's the fix that consistently produces the fastest visible ranking improvement.
